History is one try away. Christian Wade scored his 101st Premiership try to equal Chris Ashton's all-time record as Newcastle beat Sale for their first league win of the season.

Wade Matches Ashton

Wade arrived at the weekend on 100 Prem tries, one behind Ashton's record, and he did not keep fans waiting long. His score drew him level at the top of the all-time list, and he showed no signs of nerves as the milestone approached. "That's what I do," he said as the record approached.

Wade's story is unique. He famously left rugby to try the NFL with the Buffalo Bills through the league's International Player Pathway program before returning to the Premiership, where he has picked up right where he left off. Gloucester Extend Their Lead

At the top of the table, Gloucester continue to impress. They beat Bath 23-5 at Kingsholm, their first Prem win over Bath at home since April 2022, on the back of an immense defensive display. The result extended their lead at the top of the Prem.
